NEWTON SOCIAL UNION.

FANCY DRESS BALL.

Probably the most successful fancy dress ball of the season was given in the Foresters' Hall on Thursday evening in connection with the Newton Social Union. There were between fifty and sixty couples present, and fancy costumes being worn by nearly every guest, bhe efiec b was ab once charming and beautifulThe ball was a thorough and complete success, and the enjoyment of the visitors unquestioned. Excellent, music was supplied by Messrs Borthwick, Davidson, McCormish and Reid, and Mr VV. L. Hobson proved himself a most efficient and attentive M.C. He was ably seconded in his efforts for the entertainment of the guests by the committee, consisting of Messrs H. Martinson, B. Taylor, J. Smart (sec), D. Geddis and D. Jack. The catering was undertaken by the committee, and proved more than satisfactory. Space was set apart on the stage for the accommodation of visitors, of whom there was a fhrge attendance. The following is a list of the fancy costumes worn, as far as they could be obtained from the tickets :— Ladies : Miss L.
