Wellington, this day. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
In the Legislative Council to-day, the New Plymouth Harbour Bill and the Epsom and Mount Eden Reserve Bill were thrown out. The rest of the business had reference to the Conferences with the House of Representatives. ANTI-CHINESE LEGISLATION. The diffiulty between; the two bran hes of the Legislature over tbeChinese question has been cited. The terms " Chinese " inthe Act lias been defined so as not to in. elude those naturalised in New Zealandl The Clauses introduced in the Counci preventing Chinese from voting at municipal elections have been struck out. AUCKLAND GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL BILL. This Bill has been discharged from the order paper at the instance of the' Minister of Education. .
