THE SAN FRANCISCO SERVICE.
WELLINGTON'S JUBILATION.
(by teleorapu.—own be^obtek. )
Wellington, this day.
Both the evening papers approve of the decision come to by the House on Friday night. The " Evening Post" says "There wrll be very little sympathy felt for "the Northern. .district in its bereavement, because Auckland is the Pharisee of New1 ""Zealand—selfish and arrogant, ever thanking Heaven it, ;is not as other places are, and always willing to lay the hekviest possible burdens on its neigiiboius' shoulders, so long as it is not required to bear anything itself." As to the suggestion that the Premier showed great tact, and cleverness in closing the debate after the San Francisco service question was determined, the ." Evening Press" has the following :—" Now, if b\io Premier had any mentai reservation in doing this, by which ,the question of the San Francisco subsidy is held over till ntxt session,: it was not a master-stroke o| strategical astuteness, bub a; dirty, honest trick, too shallow .to bo worthy ;of anything but.contempt.* /We:do not,oe-, lieve,' howeyer, that he wa3;guilty of Anything of the sort, and regard the v derision arrived at last night on the San! Francisco i subsidy as final. j",m ;■ V 1 ■ '
