DRAUGHTS ITEMS.
Mr Wyllio. during his visit to Jjeestou, Santcrbury, played about 140 games of raughts, all of which he won with ease.
A match for the championship of the InvcrcargillClub was to commence on the 16th inst.
Tho gams of draughts is becoming very popular in the Oamaru district, as no fewer than 30 have joiii9d tho Papakaio Club, and 15 hare been enrolled for this Pukouri Club.
Mr Wyllio, writing from Leoston, Canterbury, on the l'lbh inst., says that his New Zsaland score is now 4,649 guinea. ' Of these ho has won 4,440, lost 7, and drawn 202. He further sayg, "lam happy to inform you that, old v.-, 1 am, Ihavo iuiprovedsiuce I left Duncdin. I also improved in Duncdin."
Mr David R. Hay, of Dunodin, a wellknown chess and draughts player, is going to Melbourne in Ootobetf next fco take part in tho Cliohh Contrrosß to bo hold there. His brothren of the " brod " mean to give him a present before he goe3.
A match of 20 games for tho championship of tho Oamaru district and a stake of .£lO has just been concluded between Mr James Boreham, of Pulccuri Point, and Mr S. T. Crook, of Oamaru, resulting in an easy win for Mr Boreham, the scores being ■ —Boreham, 8 ; Crook, 3 ; drawn, 9 games. This contest created a good deal of interest in the district.
Tho "Turf, Field and Farm," of May 18, when giving thct two games played between Mr Boswell, of Christchurch, and Mr Wyllie, the draugiits champion, at their first sitting, says :—•' One win and one draw at one sitting wir-h Mr Wyllie, stamps Mr Boswell as an extraordinary player."
Draughts players in town and country, are invited to send juotes of the game, ond game 3, and problems to tho Draughts Editor, Stab Office.
