FIRE AT ONEHUNGA.
About 7.30 o'clock this morning a fire broke out in a four-roomed cottage situated in Selwyn-street, Onehunga. The cottage was occupied by Mr George Green. It appears that somo linen was being aired before a fire cm a clothes horse in the front room, and caught fire, and communicated the flames to th« mantelpieces and wall paper. Mr Green had only been outi of the room some four minutes, having gone into the kitchen for the purpose of assisting to prepare breakfast. Suddenly his wife cried oufc from the bedroom that ifc was on fire. Green rushed into the room and after considerable labour succeded, in extinguishing the flames. Towards the end he wa* assisted by several neighbours. The house had a vary narrow escape, as the panes of glass in the Tjdndow were shattered by the heafc, while the interior of the room was all scorched.
The building was uninsured.
