FOOTBALL.
Probables v. Possibles.—The first practice match for the team that is to represent Auckland against the native football team on July 7th took place on the Recreatio 11 Ground, North Shore, on Saturday. There was a fair attendance of spectators. The ground was in a very bad condition, the turf being wet and slippery, but, nevertheless a good, fast game was indulged in, and, after a close match, resulted in a win for the Probables by 7 points to 3. For the winners Masefield potted a goal from the field, O'Connor secured a try, which McCausland converted into a goal, and Elliott scored a try. For the Possibles, P. Mackie got two tries, and Crowe one, JUNIOR RUGBY UNION. . The Imperial Football Club defeated Nelson by 15 points to nil. Buchanan secured 4 tries, L. Hill 3, and Sherriff 2. Mitchell converted 2 into goals and Guii d one. Victoria defeated Grafton 111. by 5 points S. Holt potted a goal, and O'Meara scored two tries. ;■;•--- Standard and Native Rose postponed their match till the end of the season. OTHER MATCHES. Auckland Navals defeated the representatives of the Civil Service by 8 points to nil. tries being obtained by J. Parker, H. Parker, J MoDermobt.Bailey, G. Moore aud Mays, one of which Taylor converted into a goal. Gordon Rifles.—This game resulted in a win for Lieut. Fairs's team by 1 point, a try secured by Hutchison to nil. McArthur & Co. v. Macky, Logan, Steen & Co.—The annual match between these warehouses wag played at Dilworth's, on Saturday, and after a good game resulted ma win for Macky, Logan, Steen and Co.'s team by 1 point. Native Rose 11. defeated Selwyn 11. by 1 point to nil. Albany v. Albert.—The former won by 6 points to nil. Tries were obtained by Airey, Buchanan, and Goldie ; the latter also kicked-^ goal from the field. Marlborough v. Terrace.—The hitter won by one point, obtained by R. Wilson, to nil, after a hard-contested game. Devonport Navals v. Ponsonby Navals. —This match resulted in a win for the Devbnports by 3 points (3 tries) to nil. Tries for the victors were obtained by Tanfield (2) and W. McKonzie. Choristers v. Oxford.—The former won by 5 points to nil. ScofTield got 2 tries and.kicked.a goal from 1, and Biss scored a try. Mercury defeated the Parnell schoohtes by 5 points to nil. : Calliope 11. beat the Britomarts by 9 points to nil. Clifton claim a win over _Nelson 11., as the latter did not roll up. All Saints' v. Otahuhu.—This match was'played with great spirit, and although. All Saints' won by seven to nil, they Had to work hard for their victory. The visitors seemed to enjoy the "pleasant lanes of Otahuhu."
