The cable-repairing steamer Sherard Osborne is still grappling for a portion of the broken cable. By some means they secured the single wire cable from Wellington across Cook Strait, and broke it. The whole of the work from the South is therefore thrown on the cable from Wanganui, and there necessarily must be considerable delay in the work.
