BAD LANGUAGE OF PUBLIC SCHOOL BOYS.
(To the Editor.)
Siß,^-With reference to the matter brought before the City Schools Committee, i.e., the bad language used by our public school boys, I think ib quite time some attempt was made to check it when a father is afraid tb send his boy to those schools for fear of such contamination. If anyone doubts his statement, let him walk across any of the play * grounds during play-hoUr, ahd he will soon change his mind. What is the use of spending so much time and money to teach the scholars grammar, Which is the art' of speaking correctly, when directly they get outside the sbhool they are permitted 'to use words unfit for anybody's ears, much less the younger children ? I would suggest that the teachers make it their business to go on the playgrbund with the boys during morning and afternoon " intermiSSiOh " ahd sCethat no swearing is indulged in. The remedy is simple, but I think it would have a good result, as the boys do it through caf-elessness ahd because it is popular.—l am, etc., J.R.R.
