INTERESTING MINING CASE.
APPLICATION FOR FORFEITURE,
(BY TELEGRAPH.'—OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Thames, this day. A case possessing some.interest to those connected with mining came on for hearing at the Warden's Court yesterday afternoon, being the first for the forfeiture of a claim that'has been heard at the Thames under the Mining Act of 1886. Under the old Act, only the Mining Inspector could institute proceedings and have licenses forfeited for non-working, ' but under the present Act anyone can do so, though in each case the result is the same, viz.,1 that the ground, if forfeited, must be sold by auction by the Warden. The application1 in question was that W. S. MeCbrmick, who asked that the Consols licensed holding, situated in the Hape Creek, 'aticl belonging to J. H. Witheford; should be forfeited upon the fbllbwihg ground:s:—"Th%t the grantee has not complied with the conditions upon which the license waViseued; that he has done no work, or very little, on the said holding; that he does not intend to work the same, and holds it for speculative purposes only."
