Drunkenness. —One firsb offender was fined 5s and costs, or in default, 24 hours' hard labour.

Petty Larceny. — James Evans was charged with the larceny of one spade, value ss, the property of Isabella Wilkie.— Prisoner pleaded guilty. He was also charged with stealing an axe, the property of Matthew Arbuckle.-—Prisoner pleaded guilty.— Sergeanb-Major Pratt said thab the man would probably have gob clear bub for bwo boys who wabched him leave bhe premises and pawn the articles at a shop in Vicboriasbreeb,—His Worship senbenced the prisoner to bhree months' imprisonmenb in each case, the sentences to run consecutively. Straying Cows.—Mary Adamson was charged wibh allowing three cows to sbray in Symonds-streeb.—Consbable Devves gave evidence bo seeing bhe cows coming oub of bhe Symonds-sbreeb Cemebery.—His Worship inflicted a fine of 30s and costs. Affiliation Case. —Albert Cubler was charged, under the Desbibube Persons Acb, wibh failing bo provide for bhe supporb of bhe illegitimate European child of one Annie Pike.—Mr Theo. Cooper appeared for the plaintiff, Mr Buckland for the defendant and Mr Humphreys wabched the case on behalf of one of the witnesses who was interested in the case. —

Mr Cooper asked bhab bhe large audience ab the rear might be removed from the Courb, as bhe evidence would be of a nabure bhab would be bebter nob lisbened bo by so many persons.—His Worship accordingly ordered that bhe Courb should be cleared.— Mr Cooper said that the mother of bhe child was an orphan, 19 years of age. She was first addressed by bhe defendanb on Orakei Road. Subsequenbly, on bhe 4bh of January, she was introduced bo him, and bhe intimacy conbinued until the 11th of April, when he made improper proposals, which she refused to accede to. The following Sunday, as she returned from church, he again renewed his proposals, and unfortunately the girl gave way, and the intimacy happened several times subsequenbly. When the girl asked him to supporb the child the defendant, with the utmost callousness, advised her to smash the child's brains.—Annie Pike, the complainant, deposed thab her father was alive, but her mobher w*as dead. She was 19 on Easber Monday, 1886. She first saw bhe defendanb aboub 12 months ago on Christinas Day. Ab thab time she was living wibh her aunb in Orakei Road. Subsequently she met him at various times, and ab lengbh she yielded to his desires. When she discovered her condition she wenb bo Dr. Lawry, and bhen bold Cutler that she was in trouble. " He said it could nob be true, and also added, " If bhe baby comes, smash ibs brains oub." The child was born ab bhe Refuge. Wibness asked the defendanb bo support bhe child, bub he said bhab he would nob, and asked, " Where's your cousin ?" She said thab she would summons him. He said, "Do ib, bhen." Ab presenb she had no means of supporb.— Cross-examined by Mr Buckland, wibness sbabed bhab her fabher was in bhe Waikabo. She only came bo bown on a visib bo her aunb. Eli Williams was her cousin. She slept in bhe same house as him bhe firsb nighb she came bo bown. There had never been improper intercourse bebween bhem. She knew a man named Obto. Ib was he who inbroduced Alberb Cubler bo her, as she was coming down the hill from Mr Wilson's church. Otto was a friend of hers. She had had improper intercourse with Otto. That was two years ago. A young man called West was never inbimabe with her. — Donald Thomas McDonald, bus driver, deposed that he knew Cutler, the defendanb. He once bold wibness bhab he had gob blamed for getingMiss Pike inbo trouble bub that he would get oub of ib all righb.— Alberb Cubler, the defendant, was called on behalf of the prosecution.—Mr Buckland objecbed. The poinb was argued and cases cited. Ultimately His Worship decided to hear the evidence and then look up aubhoribies during bhe adjournment.—Wibness admitted having had intercourse with the girl about a week after Christmas before lasb. The intimacy had entirely ceased since that date. — This concluded bhe case for bhe plaintiff.— After hearing several witnesses for the defence, His Worship considered . thab the case for bhe plaintiff had beeu proved. He would bherefore make an order for him bo pay 5s per week and also bo pay full costs.
