RAILWAY FROM WESTERN AUSTRALIA TO ADELAIDE.
A Strona Fowigßi and Coloniafl
Syndicate.
A proposal is being made to the Western Australia Government to construct a lino of railway between the piesont railway system and* Adelaide on tha land-grant system. The matter has been taken in hand by a syndicate of English, American and colonial capitalists, represented in this colony by Dr. D. N. Boyd, of Cooper's Institute. The American syndicate desires to construct the line from Eucia to some point on the eastern railway, bringing it into Perth either by the Swan or the Helena Valley. The syndicate asks for 16,000 acres of land for every mile of railway constructed, and for every 10s given by way of compensation for vested interests that they shall receive an acre of the land reserved along the railway line, the line to be on the 4ft SAin. gauge, and the construction to extend over 10 years. By the terms of the contract which the syndicate are prepared to enter into—of which the draft has been furnished to the Government—surveys are bound to be commenced within one year, and to be completed within two years from the signing of the contract. One hundred miles of the line is then to progress at the • rate of not less than 50 miles in one year. The total cost is estimated at £4,000,000 sterling, and Dr. Boyd is empowered to deposit £5,000 as a proof of bona fides and £25,000 on the signature of tho contract with the Government.
