His Lordship Bishop Luck, speaking of the publication of the "Early History of tho Catholic Church in New Zealand," says:—" We are now celebrating the first jubilee period of the Catholic Church in New Zealand ; tho publication, therefore, of this ' Early History' is exceedingly appropriate, and will form an acceptable souvenir to celebtate the first planting of the faith in this colony. The history is written by the Apostolic Bishop Pompallier himself, of which he is theauthbi and hero." In accepting a complimentary copy, the Bishop Bays: "I thank yon very sincerely for the beautifully-bound copy of your edition of the ' Early History of the Catholic Church in Oceania.' I was not aware that such high-class binding could be done in Auckland." A copy of the history should be found in every Roman Catholic home. It is now published, and may bo had from the canvassers or at the Star Office. Price :2s M in paper, 3s 6d in cloth covers.
The London correspondent of the Auckland Star, in his letter of the sth April, says — " i take some laidofs to myselC that long before ' Mr Barnes of New York' jumped into popularity, I recommended the story to my colonial newspaper "tends as a suitable one for serial publication. ' Ino Auckland Star and tho ' Duncdin Evening Star' published the tale with the improved title Jf 'A Corsicax VENDETTA.' Over here the book is having even a bigger sale than 'Called Back.' The stalls are literally piled with different editions of tho story. ' Upon my word, I nelievc I'm selling nothing else,' a Strand bookseller said to me yesterday. ' A perfect furore Jwthe tale seems to have seized folks.'* "A Cnrsican Vendetta" is now published in book form, and may be bad at the Star Office, Auckland, or from any bookseller. Price, Is.
