Per barquentine Jessie: 382 tons coal, and 121 sacks bonedust.

The schooner Maile ha 3 entered outward for the Islands. She has hauled out from the wharf and is to sail to-day with a general cargo, a few sheep and pigs.

The s.s. lona arrived from Tauranga and Mercury Bay at an early hour this morning and left again a little after eight o'clock for the Barrier.

The barquentine Silver Cloud took advantage of the wind being from the west, and sailed at 10.30 this morning for Mercury Bay, where she is to load up with timber for Sydney.

After discharging a quantity of raw sugar at Chelsea the s.s. Wainui sailed for Wellington yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock with part of her original cargo. She took one through passenger—Mr Reeve.

Orders have been received from the Admiralty for H.M.s. Egeria to survey the proposed route for laying a submarine cable between British Columbia and Australia, via New Zealand. Ib is estimated that the task will occupy about three years.

The s.s. Mararoa took her departure shortly after twelve o'clock for Melbourne via Southern ports and Hobart. ■ She has a large general cargo and the following passengers:— Messrs H. Houghton, 0. Younghusband, L. O'Connor, N. K. McDiarmid, J. Harding, J. B. Gilfillan, A. I. Thow, W. Welsh, Kempthorne, Mountfort, McKinnon, Mesdames.Duffand infant, Perrow, Halleman, and 13 steerage.

The barquentine Jessie, Captain Reid, arrived in port from Newcastle at 7.30 p.m. yesterday. She left Newcastle on May 27th, and had light southerly winds till June 4th, when a strong easterly gale was experienced, which lasted for a week. It was succeeded by E.N.E. winds till the North Cape was passed, on the 12th. Down the coast fresh N.N.W. winds prevailed, and Tiri jy.as passed at 3 p.m yesterday, and the harbour made as stated above.

Representative Morrow, of California, introduced into Congress on the 2nd April a joint resolution directing the Secretary of the navy to make such surveys of the Pacific Ocean as may be necessary to determine the existence and exact position of the dangerous reefs reported in the tracks of navigation, and particularly to make an examination of the ocean in the general pathway between the Pacific coast and the Sandwich Islands, New Zealand and Australia, for the purpose of ascertaining the proper location for submarine telegraph cables to connect these or other localities in the Pacific, the sum of $25,000 to be appropriated to begin the works.

The barque Cabafeidh, Captain Thow, arrived from Newcastle at half past eight this morning. The captain reports of the passage :— Left Newcastle on the Ist jnst. with a westerly breeze that held until the 4th ; from that time a succession of S;E. aud E. gales were met with until the 10th inst. Had fresh N. and N.W. winds until arrival in port. The North Cape was rounded at 1.45 a.m. yesterday. Were off Tiri at 3 o'clock this morning, and were towed up from the North Head. The Cabafeidh is moored at the HGbson-street Wharf for the discharge of her cargo of coal, which comes consigned to Stone Bros., and has been disposed of to the Gas Company. ■
