OPERA HOUSE.
SATURDAY NIGHT'S CONCERT.
The Amy Sherwin Company gave a farewell concert in the Opera House on Saturday evening. Owing to the mail steamer not leaving until midnight, Miss Sherwin kindly gave her services. She first appeared in a quartette with Mies Fischer and Messrs Sherwin and Stock well. This item was vociferously encored, and the four artistes had to repeat the latter portion of the piece, the selection being from " Martha," and in response to continued applause gave "Sweet Goodnight and Good-bye" from "Theßohemian Girl." Miss Sherwin in the second part of the programme sang with exquisite sweetness the solo "Little Bird So Sweetly Singing," and had to bow her acknowledgments of the applause for a couple of minutes, and finally, in response to loud calls for it, sang very toucbingly " Way Down Upon the Swanee River." Mica Minna Fischer was in splendid voice on Saturday, and her rendering of " I Dwelt in Marble Halls" drew down a vociferous encore, when she responded with " Daddy.'' Her singing of "Angels' Serenodo" (Braga) was excellent, and was also encored. Mr Lemmone showed to advantage in his two selections," "Welsh Melodies" and "an American Raphsodie," and his skill on the flute was self-evident. Mr Stockwell had a song that suited him in "The Blue Alfiatian Mountains," while " The White Squall (Barker) he also gave with good effect, the audience ineachinstancedemanding an encore. Mr Bush, the popular local basso, who has been engaged for the chorus in the Amy Sherwin Opera Company which is forming in Melbourne, had two items on the programme, both by Pinsuti, viz., "The Bedouin Love Song" and " The Raft," and the singer acquitted himself more than creditably in both, receiving an encore each time- Mr Sherwin sang "Kismet" splendidly, and also appeared in a duet, "The Fisherman," with Mr Stockwell, and with Mr Siockwell and Miss Fischer in the trio, " The Magic Wove Scarf." The concert altogether was a great success, the singing being urst-class. Miss Amy Sherwin, Herr Gorlitz, and Mr Clutsam left in the mail steamer after the concert for Sydney.
