CANADA.
The Canadian Parliament was opened on February 23rd. In his speech tho GovernorGeneral touched on the fisheries treaty, tho extension and development of the railway system in the Dominion, the elective franchise, the growth of tho north-west territories, without enunciating any positive views on the topics to which he referred.
Ottawa, Ontario, is the scene of a remarkable religious revival at present, owing to the labours of two Methodist evangelists, Croesley and Hunter. The audience at the church nightly includes the leading people of tho city, many of whom remain after tho regular meeting is ciiymissed. Sir John A. Maodontild, the Premier, formerly a staunch Episcopalian, is among the converts to Methodism. Rich deposits of gold have been discovered in the black sand bank which is situated on the coast near the mouth of Capper River, about 700 miles above Junean, Alaska. The news comes via Winnipeg. From ten pounds weight of sand taken from the bank, §140 in gold dust was secured.
