Lieutenant Coombes, of the Hamilton Light Intanbry Yolunbeer Corps received his commission from head-quarters on Saturday.
The cricket match, Taupiri v. Paterangi, resulted in a win for the latter by one wicket. Cox for Taupiri, and Aubiu for Paterangi, bowled extremely well. The South Auckland Racing Club's programme for the Autumn meetiug, although not so valuable ac the opening one, is such as to draw. In all new clubs there are a certain amount of drawbacks in starting, and the above club is no exception to the rule. Still the promoters are to be congratulated, as the receipts exceeded the expenditure. When funds will permit, it is 'to be hoped that the track will be widened so as to givo the starter an opportunity of getting his charge off on equal terms. At the first meeting he laboured under difficulties in this respect, which it is to bo hoped will be renovated before the next. >
The Rev. Mr Dollow preached his farewell sermon in Trinity Wesleyan Church, Hamilton, last evening. There was m large congregation. The rev. gentleman delivered an excellent sermon. At the conclusion a large number of, the congregation remained behind for the purpose of wishing him good-bye. Numbers of tourists and travellers passing to and from the Lake district while at Oxford take advantage of visiting the hot baths at Okoroire.
