THE CREW OF THE PLEIONE, The crew of the ship Pleione interviewed Mr Jellicoe, solicitor, who advised them that the abandonment of the vessel terminated their engagement with the owners, and that, beyond a claim to wages earned, they Had no further claim against the owners, although they had signed articles for a round voyage. Mr Jellicoe thereupon made a claim on behalf of the men against the Government of tho colony for subsistence money and for return passages to England, and after discussing the matter, the Minister ;of Marine has= given instructions to satisfy ithe men's demands. < RETIREMENT OF THE REGISTRAR

! Mt A. S» Allan, Registrar of the-Supreme Gourb here, will retire on pension next month. He. has served upwards of 40 years dontinuous' service under.' the Government, and has become entitled to' retire on the largest pension which can under any circurastances be granted. This, is twothirds of full salary. Mr Allan has received three months' leave of absence on full pay from the date of his retirement from active duty. With' the exception of Mr Justice Jbhnstonei Mr Allan is senior offiee^of the Supreme Cdtirt in the1 colony, and was really an old settler befbre he entered the Government Service; RETRENCHMENT. The Government have informed Mr R. Macalister, Provincial District Auditor, that bis duties will in future be transferred to the Audjtor*General's Department, and that consequently his seryipes will not be required aftpr the'end of the present month. Three months'; leave of absence on full pay is, however; granted;him. Mr Macalister claims that tbe Government; have no power to remove him, as his.office is one tenable for life andprovided for from the. Civil List.
