TO-DAY'S RACES AT TAKAPUNA.
In the morning the weather was very threatining, and heavy B.W. sqoalla have continued throughout the day. The attendance is not large, but bette r than on Saturday. On the Kill at Mount Victoria there is a great concourse of people evidently watching the attraction of the regatta.
Selling Hurdle Race. Sirloin (Hadfield) 1 Wideawake (G. Laing) ... 2 Black Joe (Fergus) 3 Rob Roy was the only other starter. On the fall of the flag Sirloin rushed to the front, closely followed by Wideawake ; the pair ran in thi3 order till the last hurdle in the straight was, reached, when Wideawake challenged Sirloin, and an exciting race here ensued, when the last-named won by a neck. Totalizator dividend, £2 19s. On .being submitted to auction, Mr J. King bought the winner for £19. Hack Race. Weasel (G. Hope.) 1 Yankee (McMinnimim) 2 Lady Lonsdale (Stone) 3 Also started: Welcome Joe, Buzzard, Tommy, Rosella, and Venetia. This race was won easily by a clear length. The dividend was £6 14s. J HANDICAP HURDLES, of 60 soys., second' horse to receive 5 soys. out of stakes. Over 7 fights of hurdles. Weights to be declared at nine o'clock p.m., and acceptances at ten p.m. on night of first day's races. Nomination, 1 soy.; acceptance, 2 soys. Distance, 2 miles. Coral (Collins) , ... 1 Wat Tyler (Stitt) 2 Peter Osbeek was the only other starter, and he fell at the first hurdle, dislodging Hope, his rider. Coral at this juncture went to the front, and was never headed, winning by two lengths. Dividend, £2 4s. ANa\xV rERSARY HANDICAP, of 100 soys., second horse to receive 10 soys. out of stakes, AVelghts to be declared at nine p.m., and acceptances at 10 p.m. on night of first day's races. Nomination, 2 soys. Acceptances, 3 soys. Distance, li rniies. Miss Alice (Katterns) .„ »»• 1 Formo (Meyers) „, *.„ 2 Tamora (T. Taylor) 3 Also started : Victoria, Lioness, The Cat, and Maratan. There were three break-aways before the flag fell, and eventually the field were dispatched to a horrible start. The Cat and Maratu were left at the post. Formo was the first to show to the front, : followed by Miss Alice and "V ictoria. Formo and Miss Alice led the field from the start to the finish., and although Formo looked a likely winner near the home turn, shq could not get up to Miss Alice who won easily by two lengths. Dividend, £7 14s.
