ENGLAND THE UNREADY.

STATE OP THE BRITISH FLEET.

AN APPALLING PIOTUEE.

[PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

London, January 27. Lord Charles Beresford, in the course of an address delivered at Marylebone, said that he re" signed the position of a Lord of the Admiralty because Lord George Hamilton overruled the naval experts. The speaker declared that until the recent reforms in the navy there was no organisation in the event of war, and even the coaling of the warships had been neglected. The Admiralty had also insisted upon re' ducing the salaries in the Intelligence Department.

The "Times" says the picture o England's unreadiness is a most appal, ling one; but the " Standard" holds that Lord Charles Beresford's resignation was not justified by the facts.
