DISPUTE IN THE WOOL TRADE.
A dispute between the local wool auctioneers and wool buyers has led to a temporary paralysis of the wool trade. The wool-sellers, Messrs A. Buckland and Co., Messrs Hunter and Nolan, and Mr G. W. Binney, finding that tho ordinary commission chargeable to the vendors did not pay them, mutually decided to impose special "delivery charges" on the purchase!s of wool at their marts. _ The decision was embodied in the conditions of sale posted in the several auction marts), the charge being 2s 6d per bale, Is per dump and 6d per bag. Messrs A. Buckland and Co. were to have held the first wool salo of the season to-day, and had a really fine display. When Mr A. Buckland, senr., mounted the rostrum he was asked by one of the trade buyers if he intended to adhere to tbe new conditions of sale. Mr Buckland replied in the affirmative and the buyer?, who had evidently been taking concerted action beforehand, left the mart in a body. Later in the day Mr Buckland was seen by a Star reporter, and in reply to our representative said that delivery charges are made in every town in New Zealand and Australia. The ruling charge throughout Australia is one-eighth of a penny per lb. At Christchurch the same charge is mado that it is proposed to make here. Mr R. T. Warnock, a largo wool buyer, was also seen. He objects very strongly to tho delivery charge and says that in England, where it is made, it only amounts to Is per lot, aud a lot may amount to one hundred bales.
