Roman Catholic Celebration.
The authorities of the Roman Catholic Church in Sydney, we understand, intend marking the celebration of the centenary of the colony by a number of ceremonies and commemorations, the principal of which will be a general assembly, with imposing service, of all Roman Catholic prelates of the Australian colonies. It is proposed to have a series of public services similar in character to those of the Triduum, which was held at the opening of St. Mary's a few years ago, and in which all the " pomp and pageantry " of the Church's ritual will be employed to produce the most brilliant effect possible. In connection with these services addresses reviewing the progress of religion in Australia since the days of the first missionaries are to be delivered by Cardinal Moran, Archbishop Carr, of Melbourne; Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington, New Zealand ; and Archbishop Reynolds, of Adelaide. Five archbishops arid 17 bishops will probably assist at the celebration ; and while the prelates are in Sydney it is proposed to nave several public gatherings—one in connection with the commencement of the contract for the completion of St. Mary's Cathedral, which is intended as a centennial memorial; another in connection with the completion of St. Patrick's Ecclesiastical Seminary at Manly.
