The daily newspapers commend the police for their moderation in dealing with the crowds of people, many o* whom were armed with bars of iron'

knives, pokers and gas pipes. The wounds received by numbers of the mob are stated to be less severe than those sustained by the constables. One rioter was, however, bayonetfced.
