The latest unofficial estimate of the South Australian wheat crop gives the yield ah two bushels to the acre over an area of 2,000,000 acres, and the estimated surplus at 436,000 tons. The report of the Mosgiel Woollen Factory Company shows that, after making all due provision and writing off' £1,000 for depreciation, there is a profit of £2,788. The directors recommend the payment of 8 per cent, dividend, and the carrying forward of £548.
The Charitable Aid Board at Napier have discovered that a woman with a good farm and property at Woodville, worth at leasb £1,200, with liabilities of only £79, has been in receipt of 30s per month from the relief funds. Other instances of abuse have also been reported. What next? A Japanese professor of chemistry, To Nishigawa, is staying in Munich with a commission to study and report upon the manufacture of Bavarian beer.
