A GOLDFIELD RIOT.
A Chapter of Victorian History.
The retirement from the chair of the Victorian Legislative Assembly of Mr PeterLalor recalls a remarkable incident in the early history of the goidfields of that colony, with which the name of that gentleman, is indissolubly connected. It was Mr Lalbr's singular fortune to have taken up, arms against the Gtdyernmeht of, this colony, to have fired on the Queen's troops, to have had a price set upon his head, and then to enter Pteliamenti, and enjoy a long and honourable "career,' serving as a Minister in : two "Administrations and afterwards as" Speaker of "the legislative Assembly, the duties of the last mentioned offico being very efficiently discharged by hjun for nearly seven years.
