PROJECTED DEPARTURES.

Rangitiki, ship, loading for London Piako, ship, for Napier, ilanapouri, 5.8., for South, Thursday, noon AVanaka, s.s., for South, Friday, 11.-30 a.m.

The s.s. Australia took her departure last evening for Wellington via East Coast ports. The s.s. Oreti arrived at the Manu'lcau from Wanganui via New Plymouth i'ate last night. The brif Vision and the barque Loch Xaw arrived at Sydney from Kaipara on October 25th, after a fine voyage of 18 days.

The schooner Mimiha is to be placed on the coasting trade between Paissell and this port, and will commence running in a few days. The barque Kirkdale, from Batavia August 20th, for this port, passed Wilson s Promontory on 19th September forenoon, i.nd reported, "All well." The schooner Lady Mabel, from Whangaroa, arrived- at Sydney on October 16th, also the barque Diamond, from Holuanga. itJoth had timber on board.

Thes.g. Sfcaffa left Onehunga for Raglan and Kawhia at 4 o'clock yesterday with caro-o and the following passengers:-— Messrs Turner, Dando, and Miss Powell.

The barque Kentish Lass arrived in Sydney from the Kaipara on Octobet , 24th. Experienced heavy weather for part of the voyage, but arrived all well. The cutter Lily was successfully raised with the tide last night and brought alongside the breastwork by the dock, where she now lies.

Brown, M. Vaughan, Mackay, G. Brackenridge, Quinn, Godbj&Bramwell, Mr and Mrs Scott, Skirving, Mefor and Mrs Barritt, and through palplger.s from Southern ports, and 37 in the steerage.

The British Wreck Commissioners' official inquiry into the circumstances attending the loss of the P. and O. Company's Australian steamship the Tasmania, off the coast of Corsica, says the "Australasian and South American," of September the 15th, has terminated in the suspension of the 2nd officer's certificate for two years. Entrusted with the navigation of a splendid ship, containing a valuable cargo, he had shown, the Wreck Commission era said, less r;are than would be required from the master of a small trading , vessel. He was, however, '/ranted a mate's certificate during the suspension of the higher one.

The following paragraph, taken from ..the "Newcastle Daily Chronicle," shows thafa the use of oil for fuel on steamers may probably : become general in the near future :—"Steamer without Firemen. —The steamship Charles Howard, of Sunderland, at present lying in Tyne Dock, has been adapted for carrying oil in bulk, and also iitted for burning oil as fuel. She is bound to Batoum, and the crew have signed articles at the South, Shields Shipping Office. No firemen were engaged." The Charles Howard, it may be stated, is a steamer of 544 tons neb register.
