LAND SETTLEMENT AT TAURANGA.

Tauranga, this day. At a public meeting a resolution was passed strongly urging Government to open Crown lands under a system of free selec. tion, and asking the Minister of Lands to set aside five thousand acres of the Papamoa block, now being purchased from the natives as a pensioner settlement under the proposed scheme for the introduction and settlement of pensioners. The block consists of excellent land on tho harbour, and is well suited for the purpose.
