OUR GOLDFIELDS.

(r.Y TEtiKGRAFH.—OWN" CORRESPONDENT.)

Thames, this day. Tren'tox.— The reef being driven on at No. 4 level of tho Saxon towards tho Trenton boundary shows some improvement, andappearsto be making stronger, although a few feet back the quartz was rather disturbed.

Nkw_Manuk.au.—Quartz of good quality is coming to hand, but there is no change to report.

Cambria.—Crushing is shaping payably. The_ whole of the works in progress are producing remunerative quartz, although hauls of picked stone have been less frequent lately. It is probable that driving will be re-commenced upon _\'o. 7 leader east at No. 3 level, in the course of a few days.

The Waiomo District

The erection of the battery at Waiomo is proceeding ab a satisfactory rate of progress, and I think it may safely be said that the stampers will be in operation on quartz wme time during January. There is nothing fresh to chronicle from the mines here, as very little is proceeding pending the completion of the battery. Messrs Lowrie and Plummer, of the Golden Drop holding, inform me that they intend starting operations upon the lode in the courso of a few days.

Maritoto.

Mining matters at Maritoto are in a state of quiescence, as the only ground to which a title has yet been granted is that of McBrinn's. It is intended by the manager (Mr J. H. Moore) to ab once break out a parcel or ten tons, and forward it to the Thames for treatment; This, however, will take some time, as the stuff will have to be packed from the mine to the main road.
