PONSONBY RIFLES.

THE FINAL MEETING.

The final meeting of the Ponsonby Rifles took place in the Ponsonby Hall on Thursday night last, D. B. McDonald^ Esq., in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were road and confirmed. The following inedala were then presented to the winners by Captain McDonald, viz. : Set'gt.-Major Barron was presented with the gold medal given to the corps by Captain McDonald. In making the presentation Captain McDonald said that he had very much pleasure in presenting the medal to the winner, as that was not the only medal he would wear, as Sergeant-Major Barron had already the honour to wear medals which were granted to him by his country for long service and good conduct, and for his services in the field when under fire, and it was with great pleasure that he could say to Sergeant-Major Barron that he (Captain McDonald) could claim to share some oi that honour also, as he likewise had the honour to hold the New Zealand warmedal. Seigt. Brownwaspreseiitedwith the medal given by MrT. Peacock, M.H.R., Col.-Sergt. McDonald,with the medal given by Jos. Newman, Ksq., VoL Bulford with the medal given by Mrs McDonald, and Corporal Whiting with the medal given by Mr J. M. Lennox. Lieutenant Martelli then, on behalf of the Company, presented Captain McDonald with a silver tea and coffee service, and in a neat speech wished Mr and Mrs McDonald success on behalf of theCompariy. Lieutenant Palmer then read an address given by the Company to Captain McDonald, and said a few parting words to Captain McDonald on behalf of the mem bers of the Company. Captain McDonald acknowledged the presentation with sincere thanks, and said the souvenir would recall to his mind in the future the pleasant companionship that had existed between him arid* the majority of the Company. Three hearty cheers were then given for Captain McDonald, and three more for Mrs McDonald. Three cheers were also respectively given to Lieutenant Palmer, Lieutenant Martelli and Sergeant-Major Barron, and the meeting terminated.
