MAN KILLED ON THE RAIL. WAY.

Christchuech, this day, About 7.30 a. m. to-day Michael O'Brien^ platelayer, was killed onthe railway between Christchurch station and Gasworks road. It was his duty to examine the line, and while doing so he was knocked down by the engine of the Southbridge train, which with foui trucks passed over him killing him instantly. The driver whistled when starting, but apparently the deceased did not hear it. The body was terribly mangled, and the entrails of deceased were strewn along the line for half a chain. He was married, and leaves six children. , V
