A Pocket-800- Saves his Life.

A desperate character named Farrell, an old convict of New South Wales, was arrested at Fitzrqy, Melbourne, with two companions. Their rendezvous has been suspected by • the police for some time, and to-day Detectives Nixon, Cansey, Ward and others being refused admission, forced open the door. Ward went into the back bedroom and found Farrell in bed. As Nixon entered the room Farrell drew a revolver and fired point blank at him. The bullet struck Nixon dn the right breast and penetrated his pocket-book and some documents. His life was thus saved. A struggle ensued, when the prisoners wero overpowered and conveyed to the lockup.
