Lord Shaftsbury, who arrived here by the s.s. Rotomahana last evening, is a son of Sir Anthony Lord Ashley Shaftesbury, and grandson of the Right Hon. Anthony Ashley Cooper, K.G., M.A., D.C.L., Earl of Shaftesbury, noted for the effortshehas made for the improvement of the social condition of the labouring class lin England. Our distinguished visitor is a young man eighteen years of age, and is bound for a pleasure tour round the world, having recently arrived at Sydney, from Bombay and Hongkong. His Lordship was driven out to Mount Eden to-day, and was shown the beautiful view of the city and surroundings to be seen from that spot. After seeing the sights here His Lordship intends to proceed homeward via Southern ports,
