The officials of the War Office are to allow a general officer of the Imperial forces to inspect the Australian defence forces every two years.

The Treasury have cabled to Lord Carrington, Governor of New South Wales, stating that it is imprac" ticable to pay for the mail service on the basis of actual weight carried; the cost will require to be apportioned in fixed sums. An agreement might possibly be come to, by which England would pay £90,000 and the Australian colonies £80,000.
