Stupid Attempt at Retrenchment.

TM Aroha, this day. MtrcH indignation was felt here on t .becoming known on Saturday last that the Government, on and after the 10th inst., purpose providing Te Aroha with a tri-weekly train service only. A public meeting will probably be at once called to consider the matter and the best steps to take with the object of auashing this attempt to injure Te Aroha and the popularity pf its baths just at the commencement of the season too. The lato Government did all in their power, apparently, to favour Rotorua and retard ]Te Aroha, but this last adds insult to injury. It is hoped that the Auckland press and people will join in a protest against sp great an injustice. Had this step been proposed at the commencement of the winter, solely from a desire to retrench, and if the daily service had been again resumed during the. summer season, it would have been more reasonable: but to do so now at the opening of the bathing season, and just when the services of a highly-qualified resident medical practitienerhavebeen secured thrpugh the unaided (by Gevernment) exertions of the local residents, it is not to be quietly submitted to,
