Messrs Arthur and Buddle's Weekly Report.—A very quiet week in all departments. City and country almost altogether given up to elections. Towards the end of the week buyers were beginning to settle into business, but the supply from the country was smaller than it has been for many years. That to hand brought high prices, leaving a large unsatisfied demand. The market is still overstocked with Southern potatoes ; low prices have to be taken to effect sales in large or small lots. Produce of all kinds is wanted, and if of good quality will sell readily at fair prices. Local apples: Still a few to hand in good condition, and sold at 5d per lb. Lemons brought a better price ; no Sydney ones in the market. Poultry sold well. Pigs brought a high price. Furniture very quiet. Friday—Market day sale of poultry, produce, fruit, groceries, etc. : There was a large attendance, good demand for poultry and all kinds of good produce, but the supply was not at all equal; prices obtained were very good. Fowls, common, is 4d to 2s 3d; Brahmas, etc., Is lOd to 2s 4d; ducks, Is 8d to 2s 2d; well-bred pigeons, 7s per pair ; turkeys, 3s Id to '3s lOd ; geese, 3s 3d. Produce, etc. : Pumpkins, 3s 3d ; potatoes, Is 9cl to 2s 6d ; onions, $cl tol£d ; oats, 2s 3d; chaff, 2s 3d per sack ; oatmeal, £10; cheese, l£d to 4d ; hams, 3d to 6Jd ; bacon, 2d to 6Jd ; butter, fresh, 6sd to 10|d: honey, 3d; coffee, Is 2d; mixed biscuits, 4^d ; apples, locally grown, sd; apples, Hobart, 6s per case ; lemons, 8d to 9|d ; sharps, 5s ; wheat, 4s ; flour, £12; tea, half-chests; Is Id to Is 3d per lb ; box tea, 20s ; bran, 4s- 6d per sack.
Messes Paget and Ralston. report as follows : —Our Friday's sale was well attended and fair business resulted. Bub a small quantity of poultry came to hand, and for this there was keen competition. Fowls brought Is 6d to 2s 2d each ; young ditto, Is 2d to Is 5d ; ducks, 2s Id ; turkeys, 3s 3d to 4s 9d ; geese, 4s 9d; small Berkshire pigs, 7s 6d to 8s 6d ; Houdan fowls, 3s 6d. Produce, &c. : Oamaru potatoes, £2 5s to £3 per ton; seed potatoes, lapstones £6 to £7 10s; onions, to Id per lb ; cheese, Id to 3Jd per lb ; bacon, 2d to 4^d ; hams, 2^l to 6d; oats, 2s 4d per bushel ; wheat 3s lid ; sharps, £5 5s per ton ; bran, £4 15s; chaff, £4, sacks extra; lard, 2Jd per lb; oatmeal, 10s 6d per 1001b ; flour, lis ; salt butter, 2d to 4Jd : lemons, 3Jd per dozen ; honey, 2d per lb. Several small lots of groceries and oilmen 8 stores were sold at fair rates.
