Vkry general regret is expressed all over tho colony at the defeat of Mr Tole. An influential member of the Upper House telegraphed to Mr Tolo today : "Everyone hero regrets your defeat, Wellington would have returned you." This morning Mr Tole was waited on by a newly-elected member of one of the Auckland country seats, and the gentlemen offered to retire in his favour.
