The Jubilee Hotel.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—His Honor Judge Ward, in his decision yesterday re tho Jubilee Hotel case, made a sweeping accusation with regard to myself that I am sure he will very much regret When he hears the reals facts of the case stated before him. The facts are these : lam one of tho Licensing Commissioners of Newmarket, andinthat capacity adjudicated upon license for the proposed Jubilee Hotel. As a builder and contractor I was subsequently the successful tenderer for the hotel against 14 others in Mr Mahoriey's office, being £45 below the next lowest tenderer. The time that elapsed from the granting of the license until tenders were opened would, be about three weeks. The work, on foundations referred to by
Judge Ward, was dml by Messrs Suiter and^Prothcroe/previous tO the granting ot the licehseyaad was done with a ,view,, p* ascertaining the'depth the rock 13$ trora tlie surface, etc.-,'so as to give.-some data tor contractors to tender on. Em' J^gC }\ ard to even hint that there was the slightest attempt at collusion is unjust both to myself and Messrs Suiter and Protberoe, as n'eibhcr they nor anyone on their behalf ever held out any inducement-to me to tender for the job, or, in fact, tampered with me in any shape or form. I wish I could say as much for the parties who are working oehind the scenes, in opposition to the Jubilee Hotel.—l am, etc., William Edgerlky, Builder.
