Eden.

Mr J. A. Cornell is to address the electors of Eden at Titirangi to-night.

Last night Mr Connell addressed the electors at Mount Albert Hall, when there was a large attendance, Mr J. R. Raaderson in the chair. Mr Connell, who was well received, stated that if he were elected he would endeavour to the utmost of his ability to do the best he could for his constituents in an honest, straightforward manner. In the present depression of New Zealand,.he did not think it would be advisable to go in for heavyprotectiveduties. He considered the present tariff imposed a heavy enough burden upon the people. He was strongly desirous of protecting and promoting such local industries and manufactures as were suited to the colony. He thought that before the North Island Trunk Railway had been started the question of the right of the natives to the valuable lands through which the line must pass should have been definitely settled. The Maoris should be treated justly in this matter, but no absurd concessions should be made to them. A number of questions being put and answered, a vote of. .thanks and confidence was accorded Mr Connell by a large majority.
