Trade Depression.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l confess to being not a little surprised to see the reprint of Mr Williamson's paper from " Blackwood in your Friday's paper. My surprise arises mainly from the fact that I suppose there is not a single _ article ot the creed of politics advocated in Blackwood" that would be supported by you. ihe positions taken up in this paper have been replied to many times and exposed as sophisms ; some of them lie on the surface, others require searching for. lam not going to undertake a reply, but would ask you to reprint Mr Mongredieu s short paper on trade depression written two years ago; but still applicable. It is a careful- and intelligent examination of the whole question, and will throw considerable light on the course of trade not generally understood.—l am, etc., John Milne.
