Messrs Arthur axd Buddle reporb a comparatively quieb week in all departments. Furniture : The salo of the late Mr C. 0. Davis's furniture and effects on Monday resulted very satisfactorily, the attendance being large and competition brisk. Piano realised L3O 10s; harmoniums, L 5 12s 6d and L 3 17s Gd. The mart sales on Monday and Tuesday were well attended, and a fair amount of business was done at good prices. Produce and poultry : Very little has come forward during the week, and prices remain about the same. There is still a demand for bacon and cheese of first-class quality, but little of this description has yet come in. The same may be said of butter, what we have had being of medium quality only. Entries of poultry and pigs have been limited in number, but good prices obtained. Fruit: Not much local grown entered, and owing to the large quantity of Hobart now in the market, prices suffered a little. Fruit, ex Tarawera and Te Anau, realised for apples 4s to Bs, and oranges 4s Id to 5s a case. Friday's market sale was largely attended, and fairly good values were obtained. The following are the prices: Fowls, Is Id to 2s 2d; Brahmas, etc., 2s 2d to 2s sd; Muscovy ducks, 2s Id each ; common do., Is 7d to 2s 6d; pigs, 4s to 6s. Produce: Potatoes, 3s to 3s 6d; pumpkins, 2s to 3s Id; piemelons, Is to Is 3d ; onions, gd ; butter, keg, 2d to 4d ; bacon, Id to 4|d ; ham, 2Jd to 4£d ; cheese, ljd to 4d ; apples, local, l£d to 3d; apples, Hobart, 4s to 8s per case; pears, 2|d to2Jd; lemons, 5 J to Is O^d; oranges, 4s Id to 5s per case ; honey, section, 3£d to 4£d ; honey, tin, 2£d.
Hesketh, Aitken and Co. report sales for the past week as follows: —Fruit: Apples—local, 2d to 3|d; Hobarb Town apples, 2s 4d to Ss 3d per case ; bananas— good fruit, ripe, ljd to ; green, ljd to 2d ; oranges (Sydney), 4s '9d to 5s 6d per case; canned tomatoes, 20s per case of 2 dozen 21b tins ; canned pine apples, 22s per case of 2 dozen 21b tins; peanuts, 2|d to 2Jd per lb. Poultry sales: Good table fowls sold very well from Is 10d to 3s Id each; medium conditioned, Is 3d to 2s; fancy breeds at very fair prices, ranging from 2s 3d each for Brahmas to 4s 9d for Cochins ; ducks, ordinary, brought 2s Id to 2s 7d ; Rouens, Aylesbury, and Pekins, 2s 6d to 3s 4cl each ; turkeys, 2s 6d to 3s 4d each; geese, 2s 6d to 3s ; 'pigeons, 6d to Bd, large attendance of buyers, and spirited bidding for the better conditioned sorts; pigs, small inferior breeds, 2s 9d to 5s 6d ; medium-sized, 5s 9d to 8s 6d; well-bred Berkshires sold at 8s 9d to 14s each. Produce : Potatoes, local, Is 6d to 2s 6d per cwt; Canterbury, 2s 6d to 3s per cwt; Oamaru, 3s to 3s 6d per cwt; seed potatoes, Sheppards, ss, kidneys, 5s to 6s, demand good for really good sorts ; onions, 7s to 9s per cwt for good dry; inferior qualities, ; Jd to per lb ; pumpkins, £2 to £3 per ton ; mangolds, 18s to 20a per ton ;' carrots, (white Belgium) L 2 5s to L 2 10s per ton ; carrots, red, L 2 to L 2 5s per ton; cabbages, Is to Is 9d per sack; celery, Is per dozen bunches; cabbage plants, Sd to 10d per 100; turnips, 9d per doz. bunches. Cheese —good dairies, 3£d to 4Jd ; inferior qualities, Id to Hams (Canterbury) —new cure, 8d to 9d. Bacon (Canterbury) —in rolls or sides, new cure, guaranteed, second quality meat, 4d to 6d. Hams and bacon (local)—prime dairy fed, 6d to 8d; second quality meat, 4d to 6d ; rolled bacon .(green), to sd. Dressed pork, 3d to >3|d for best sorts; inferior, Id to 2|d. •Honey, 3d to 4d in 6 and 101b tins ; 2£d to [3d in 601b tins. Hides : Cow hides, 21d to 3gd • heifer, 2Jd to 3Jd; bull, 2d to 2£d ; skins, 3|d 3|d ; sheep skins," Is 4d to Is lid. Fat, lls 6d to 14s 6d per cwt; bones, 4s to 4s 9d. The wooden buildings in Wake-field-street, to be removed, realised Lo 2s 5d and L 5 5s each. Business for the week brisk, and generally improving. Mr Edward Leydox reports business for the. week satisfactory, The sales, were well
attended. Tho demand for furniture has not been up to the average, therefore the prices obtained were low. There is a demand for good bacon and cheese, but not much iirst-class quality is coming to hand. Potatoes are also in demand, at a fair price. At Tuesday's sale of furniture and effects the bidding was slow, and the goods were sold cheap. At Wednesday's sale of drapery, clothing, fancy goods, etc., the bidding was brisk, the goods realising very good prices. Ab Friday's sale of produce, furniture, etc., potatoes fetched L 3 to L 3 5s per ton ; onions, Id to IJd per lb ; bacon, 4d to GJd ; hams, s}d to 7Jd : cheese, 3Jd to 5d per lb ; buscuits; 3d to ; tea, Is 2d to Is 6d; fowls, Is Id to Is 3d each. There was also a lot of furniture sold at very fair prices. On Saturday, the sale at Mr Fergie's store, Tuakau, was well attended, and the bidding was very good ; all the goods were sold at satisfactory prices to the vendor.
Messrs Paget and Ralston report tho following prices as obtained by them at their last Friday's sale. Poultry: This week's prices are a decided improvement upon the previous sales. Young fowls brought 9d to Is 3d each ; full grown ditto, Is 6d to 2s Id ; Langshans, 2s 8d ; turkeys, young, Is 4d to 3s ; ducks, Is 7d to 2s ; small pigs, 3s 8d to 4s ; geese, 3s 3d ; pigeons, Sd ; bantams, 9d; pile game fowls, 3s 9d. Produce: Best table potatoes, Southern, L 3 5s to L 3 10s per ton; pumpkins, L 2 15s ; maize, 3s Cd to 3s 8d per bushel; oats, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; bran, L 4 15s per ton ; sharps, L 5 10s ; cheese, 2d to d£d ; hams, 3d to 6d : bacon, 2d to 4Jd ; Taranaki butter, in pats, 6d to 7d ; onions, Jd per lb ; corned beef, Id; flour,. LI 1 10s per ton; oatmeal, Ll2 ; sugar, 8s Gd per 351b bag ; tea, 14s per box ; soap, 10s to 22s per box ; candles, 4Jd to 6Jd ; rice, Id to Hd per lb ; biscuits, 2Jd to 3Ad. But little business was done in other lines.
