London, May 17. The mining market is gradually improving, and it is thought there will be a big stir again in the course of a month or two. New Zealand seems to be in the most disfavour of all the gold-mining countries at the present time, and tmless returns soon come to hand from the Kapanga and Coromandel companies, our New Zealand mines will be neglected, and there will be no chance of floating any other companies. Nothing short of returns will bring your mines into notice again. Queensland is the favourite, and it is understood that the Transvaal is the next-coming field. Some splendid stone from this country was exhibited at the stock exchange yesterday. An effort is still being made to form a syndicate to float a company for the purpose of working the Conquering Hero, Just in Time, and Colonial — altogether some 90 acres of ground at Coromandel. Captain Thomas, formerly of Coromandel, Mr Atwood, and some of the most influential men in the Mining Exchange are interesting themselves in this matter. The Syndicate Formed. A cablegram was received by a gentleman in Auckland on Saturday as follows : - " Syndicate formed ; money certain." This has reference to the ground taken up at Coromandel, and referred to in the preceding paragraph. The ground includes the Conquering Hero and Murphy's Hill, 30 men's ground at the upper township, the. Just-in-time, lona, Suez, and Albion, adjoining the old Union Beach, 30 acres ; and the Colonial.Carnafcic Comstock, Rakaia, Thrush, Shooting Star, and Sunnyside, in all 30 acres.
