POLICE COURT—THIS DAY.

(Before Messrs L. D. Nathan and S. Y. Collins, J.P'.s). Drunkenness. — No fewer than six persons were punished for this offence. James Evans pleaded guilty to the more serious offence of being drunk and disorderly in a railway carriage. It appeared from the statement of Sergeant Pratt that prisoner and another man were gambling in a railway carriage, when a quarrel arose, and a scuffle ensued. Prisoner, in trying to push the other man oft' the carriage,fell oil himself, and the train had to be stopped for some time. Accused said this was not so. He was trying to light his pipe when he fell off. Fined 20s and costs. Window Breaking.-Daniel Gallagher was charged, in addition to the offence of drunkenness, with -wilfully breaking a pane of glass, value 20s, the property of William Holdsworth. -Accused admitted the offence.—William Holdsworth, storekeeper of Victoria-street, deposed that he heard the crash of glass and saw prisoner sitting in the hole he had made in the window. - Prisoner offered to pay for the damage, and was fined L 5 and costs,or fourteen days in default. Trespassing. —Michael Tierney was charged under the Police Offences Act with being found at night without lawful excuse in the old guard-house in Government House grounds. Prisoner admitted the offence, and was sentenced to one month s imprisonment with hard labour. Alleged Assault.—Bob and Charlie, two Fijians, were charged with assaulting Ernest Frost by striking him on the head repeatedly with a whip, and kicking him on the , 'head and body.—Sergeant Pratt said there was also a Maori mixed up in this case, and he asked for a remand in order that his capture might be effected. - Remanded till Monday. Alleged Robbery. —Richard Sandal! was charged with stealing a dray and pair of tug chains, the property of John Murphy. —Mr Cotter appeared for the prosecution, and Mr J; P. Campbell for the defence.— The case was adjourned till Monday, by arrangement. i
