Z The -members of the Aucklaixl Liedertafel meet this evening at eight o'clock at th'o Choral Hall (Alfred-street entrance) for the purpose of receiving the Committee's report. ■' Applications are invited for the position of editor of the " Marlborough Express." The .transfer books of the New Zealand Insurance Company will be closed from the 30th inst. to the 13th prox., both days inclusive. . . The following musical illustrations wil be sung at Dr. Moore's lecture on '' Longfellow "to the Athenreum Society.in the social hall of the V.M.C.A. Building to- / morrow (Tuesday) evening:—l, "Stars of the Summer Night," quartette by A. A, Whitehorne, specially composed for this lecture; 2, "Wreck of the Hesperus" ("Blockley); 3, "Excelsior," duet(Balfe); 4, " The Stars and Bara " (J. F. Barnett); 5, "Daybreak" (Romer); (5, " Arrow and ' the Song"' (Balfe); 7, "Good-night, Beloved," quartette (Pinsuti). These will be sung by leading amateurs, and numbers oner four and five have nob been produced in Auckland before. Mr Lesley Martin will I preside at the piano, and we have no doubt that the lecture and music will be as enjoy"ableas"The Evening with Tennyson " of last. year. a ..The Devonport Navals muster for tor- ■ pedo instruction to-morrow night, at 7.30. After drill a meeting will be held for the •■purpose of ' electing a lieutenant. _ All absentees from parades in future will be . fined, and the same enforced by law.
