VICE-REGAL ECONOMY.
Sir Wμ. Robinson, the Governor of South Australia, is, according to the rules lAicl down by all political economists, an iriyaluable member of society. It is by wjhafc a man saves, not by what lie spends that he benefits the community, John S. Mill teaches us; and Governor Robinson is a saving man. He is of Scotch extraction and from the north of Ireland, which pprhaps has something to do with b)s praiseworthy economy. The other day, according to a story that is going the rounds in Adelaide, his aide-de-camp was intercepted by a South Australian Customs official just as he was leaving the Northterrace railway station with a neat little brown paper pai*cel under his arm. Governor Robinsop is not Ropppular in - Australia as he ought to be, so the official stopped the aide", ' and desired- to see the contents of the parcel.;. "It As for ■Government.;/ House," , 'said his Excellency's ' mpssengeiy pushing past. ," Must see what's '.. in ' it," said the jealous donairier.' " Well,'look here,'? said the aide-de-camp,brought to bay, and droppins his voice .confidentially, ;" it's only ia. suitiof clothes !'' "Well, then, there's duty to be paid!" ".No, but you don't understand," said the ; youtliful aide, in a voice that shook with suppressed emotion.'.: " It's I only an old dress suit, that his Excellency I has had dyed in Melbourne." ; The Customhouse official staggered back against the walV.ais PM &W W X :■'■.:■■
