AUCKLAND SAILORS' HOME ASSOCIATION.

The anmial meeting was held in the Association's office, Arcade , Buildings, oh the 16th June, the Right Rev. Bishop Cowie presiding. • Report and Balance Sheet were read by the Rev; J. S. Hill. ' The report traversed a period from January Ist, 1886, to March 31st, 1887, and stated that the change of constitution adopted at the last annual meeting had been duly observed. It also made reference to the progress made with the new Sailors' Home. Tenders were accepted in January last for its erection at a cost of L 3,045, and on April 6th, 1887, the foundation stone .was laid-by the Right Rev. the President, in the presence of a large number of ladies and gentlemen. The accounts to March 31st; 1887, duly audited,: showed that the income for the fifteen months had- exceeded the expenditure by ' L 169 8s 3d. The furniture, books, boat, ,etc., were set down as assets, arid no portion of the capital, viz., L 12,150, bequeathed by ■Mr .Costley.,..had, been.applied to-current expenses, and there was a surplus of L4l 3s 9d. ...It was .estimated ;that the cost of the building, With the furniture on hand and to be would not be less than L 4.000. The interest on the remainder, L 8,150, at 7 per cent;, •together with say L6O interest derived from the building money which is on temporary deposit, and subscriptions to LSO, would yierd an income for ; the ensuing year of L 645. ■• The expenses might be estimated at: wages, L 30 0; general expenses, : L2OO ; rent, Ll5O ; total,. L 650 ; leaving a small deficiency.* Careful economy in every respect-was needed to prevent'the Council from encroaching on the capital. The reMissionaryV Report. Fell read his report, showing that a large amount of work had , been done* by; the regular course of meetings, and also a large number .of letters received from various parts of the world; in which sailors who attended the Auckland Home testified to the benefits they had derived from it during their visit to this port. This report was also adopted.
