THIS VOLUNTEER TROUBLE.

(3Y TELEGRAPH—OWN REPORTER.)
Wellington, this day. Lieutenant Talker had an interview with Sh* G. Whi-more yesterday, which lasted without interruption from early in the forenoon till 3 p.m. Sir George stated that he had written to Colonel Lyon that it was
very wrong for any commander of a battalion to place three officers under arrest as had been done in the cose of the Ponsonby Rifles, and he thoroughly disapproved of what had been done. ' He said he must decline to call a Board to inquire into the complaints of Captain McDonald against LieutenantColonel ■ Mahon, as Colonel Lyon decided that sufficient evidence to prove the complaints could not be adduced by Captain McDonald, and, moreover, as LieutenantColonel Mahon had denied tho charges, he always accepted the word of an officer. Lieutenant Palmer is bringing the whole matter of his libel action before the Houso, and his evidence will be taken by the Petitions Committee. ■
