THE DUNEDIN PRESS ON THE MINISTERIAL SPEECHES.
(BY TELEBRAPH'---bWS- COBEB3PONDiNT, j :'; C ; ; '_! Dunedin, this day. _.-■■' The " Star," criticising the Ministerial addresses, says: "On two points public opinion will hold Mr Ballance to have blundered. The proposal to constitute ar'Judicial' committee of Parliament to sit in judgment oh the Supreme Court is such ■'- a transparent absurdity as to be beneath the dignity of serious comment, but silly as this is, worse remains. Mr Ballance -spoke, it is- hoped, for - - himself, and not for the Ministry, . Since the delivery of Mr Ball&nce's speech ' ' a greater than he has Bpoken at Christchurch. We seek in vain for any indication of policy, we rise from a perusal of the speech no wiser than before, but more firmly impressed with the conviction thab nothingness than the removal of Sir J. Vogel from the Councils of State will amend our condition at Home, or-improve -our'credit" f abroad." Discussing the Ministerial addresses, the Otago "Daily Times" says: "There is no reason to lose faith in the! colony because of i tbe levity of its leaders, but if we wish to restore confidence and ,; attract capital and population, we must insist upon having ballast in the Government. We must, stop. their flights of fancy at a serious crisis,- and entrust the conduct of affairs to .serious men who will -. feel a weight of responsibility and make themselves respected . *'
