Mutinous Conduct in Gaol.
Another prisoner waß brought down from Mount Eden Gaol this morning to be dealt with by the Resident Magistrate for mutinous conduct in Mount Eden Gaol. The accusod waa a native named Thomas Pehiriri, and he was charged with using threatening language to the officers of the Mount Eden Gaol, and with destroying prison property by smashing a bucket. Tho prisoner appeared to be very much excited, and was closely watched in Court l>y a couple of warders. The evidenco showed that the prisoner was vory violent, and behaved viciously boforo tho gaoler, and when taken to his coll subeequontly smashed a bucket. He had been convictod of previous offences of this nature. Tho accused said ho wished to aek questions of the witnesses, but could not speak English sufficiently well, and for the came reason ho could not make any statement. Tho Bunch stated that thero was already a long list of ollonces againat the prisoner, and the gaoler added that they mostly all emanated from his own bad temper. Pi iuonor was ordered to be fed on bread and water for seven days.
