MISCELLANEOUS.
Fagan has dropped out of tho race for tho Championship. .
W. G. George is going to visit AustraliaWho have they got to run him? Tho Bowling Green is a treat to soe now, it is in such splendid condition. Malone has expressed his willingness to run Samuels, tho flying darkie, foranydis tance ho likes.
Entries for the Amateur Athletic Club's meoting on the 30th closed last night. The handicaps are to appear next Wednesday. gMr L. Myers, in reply to Malone's challenge, has stated his intention of leaving the States for Australia before the snow falls, and then Malone will be given every opportunity of arranging matches. I notice that tho Sports Committee for tho Agricultural Show, to bo held at Ellorslio on the 9th of November, have omitted a walking raco from their programme. It seems a pity to soore out this ovent, which always proves one ol tho features of the day's sport.
The feat which cost Captain Webb his lifo has boen successfully performed. On August 22nd a fisherman swam tho Niagara Whirlpool for a thousand dollars. He°was nearly drowned, and statoa that he would not undertake it again for all the monoy in the world.
Full particulars of George's breaking the milo record aro to hand now. Ho started favourite at 7to 4, owing, perhaps, to a slight sprain Cummings had received the week before. Speaking of tho raco, tho "Sporting Life "writes thus of tho finish- " A terrific struggle ensued up tho back ttrotch, and a perfect roar wont up from tho crowd. Goorgo stuck to his work with unflinching gamenees, and, timing himself with rare judgment, spurted in brilliant fashion, and caught Cummings at tho first Hospital corner. Gamely thoPaislev man essayed to hold him, but, after ono of tho toughost struggles ever witnessed, George got his head in front. The scene at this point beggars description, the cheering being absolutely deafening. One more gallant effort on the part of Commings, but it proved his last. Goorgo never relaxed bis efforts, and Cummings, cracking sixty from home, left George to breast the tape alone, in 4min. 12faec. — the fastest time on record."
