Forester's Anniversary.

The twenty-third anniversary of Court City of Auckland, A.0.F., was celeb>att»d on Tuesday evening last by a supper and ball in the Foresters' Hall, Karangihapo Koad. There were between 85 and 100 couples present, including representatives from all the filter courts in the district. Dancing was (commenced at eight o'clock, and coon after e'even an adjournment was made to the lodge room upstairs, where a first class supper had been laid out by Mr F. Rowlinson, of Karangahape Road. Bro. W. McOullough. P.C.R., presided, and the vice chair was occupied by Bro. Fotheringhim, secretary of the Court The gue?ts having partaken of supper, ecveral toasts which are customary on such occasions were given, and duly responded to. "The Queen" was drunk with musical honours. The Chairman gave the " High Court of Forestry," coupled with the name of Mr Shawcross, and P. D. C. R. Keeaing responded. "The District Court" wa» given from the vice chair D. C. R. Kose acknowledged tho toast. He regretted that there waß not a member of tho District Court present to respond. Bro. Lovell proposed "Court City of Auckland." This Court was the strongest in Auckland, and numbered over 400 members. It expended more than £500 last year in sick pay, and this fact alone showed the good work it was accomplishing. He believed he was correct in saying that Court City of Auckland was the Premier Court in the colony. Bro. Fotheringham, Secretary of the Court, responded. The Court was in a flourishing condition, and at the present time had £5,000 to the ciedit of Sick and Funeral Fund. Last year they had spent upwards of £1,200 in medical, funeral, and sick charges. If every man would join one of these societies, there would be no necos sity for a Charitable Aid Society. Their membership numberod 420, of whom 398 were good on the books, and the remainder nearly so ; consequently, they were in a very flourishing condition. The average age was 37J years. Tho Chairman gave the sister Courts, and in doing so eaid there was not a Court in the Auckland District that could not meet the demands upon it. Every six months a new Court was being opened in Auckland District, which was now tho largest in the colony.— Bro. Cobine, P.C.R., responded.-Bro. Kee sing gave the toast of the other Friendly Societies, which were, like themselves, doing a good work in the community. The toast was drunk with musical honours. The Chairman replied, at the game time saying there was not, the slightest doubt that friendly societies were desirable, and he thought every young man t-hould belong to one. Brother kose gave the " Press ;" Bro. Dr. Lawson, "The Ladies," Bro. Green responding ; and the list concluded with " Tho Health of the Caterer," which was proposed from the chair. A second relay of guests having been provided with supper, dancing was resumed and continued until an earty hour this morning. Tho programme comprised 23 dances, exclusive of several extra?. Splendid music was provided by an efficient band, consisting of Messrs C. and P. Hanncken, Reed, Davidson, and Morris. — Messrs Robinson and Carlaw performed the duties of masters of ceremonies very satisfactorily, and were assisted by Messrs Main, McKune, and Wright, as introducing committee. The general committee, by whom the anniversary was carried to a most successful conclusion, consisted of Messrs Fotheringbam, Black, Smart, Jickell, Campbell, and Bain.
