Grafton v. Newton.

Grafton : Ryan (captain), Brown, Lecky, Stewart, Mountfort, Muir, Harding, idcock, Crowall, Bill, Verity, H.w.on, Speight, Cosson and Bruce. Newton : Mills, Salt, Hobson, Piitchard, Murray, Makin, Archer, Williamson, Fairweather, Rossor, Bruco, Bell, White, McKeown and McMillan. Tho ground wus very- hard in places. Grafton only showed fix men of her first team in this match, which resulted in a victory for her by four tries to nil, Ryan, Harding, Muir, and Lecky getting the tries. Ryun commonced tho match by kicking off for Graftsn, and the ball, for a long time, was kept well up to Newton's goal, Muir eetting a touch in goal. Mills, the Newton captain, kicked oil' again, and tho gamo etill continued in Newton"s 23. After somo loose and fast play, tho ball went off tho goal line, and Ryan, Grafton's captain, falling on it, secured a try. Ryan then took tho kick, at a sharp angle to the goal, with effect. After another kick off by Mills, the game continued in Newton's 23, till from a throw Ryan got a mark, bat did not score. Then followed indecisive play in neutral ground, in which McKeown exhibited some skill and pluck in low collaring, Ryan now, by somo splendid running and dodging, brought the ball back in Newton's 25, and for the next quarter of an hour it was only determined playing on Newton's part that kept Grafton from scoring. No further score resulted when half timo was called. Verity, an old player of note, mado bis first appearance this season in this match, playing for Grafton. The next evont was Harding, of Wairoa, securing the ball from a long pass, and running in, securing a touch down. Locky, to whom the kick was entrusted, delayed rather too long, and being rushed, failed to make a goal. Immediately afterwards Ryan potted at the goal, but missed, and soon after had another try, this time only missing getting a score by a mere shade. Hardy made a good run and passed tho ball to Muir, who got it ou tho lino and touched down. Ryan took the kick, nearly scoring a goal. Shortly after, Speight got a mark, and Ryan kicked but did not score. Ryan and Stewart only missed potting goals by an ace. Lecky next by a plucky run passed tho Newton backs and got a try, but taking the kick, missed scoring Five minutes afterwards Leckey crossed tho goal line, and was falling on the ball when ho dropped it. McMillan received it and arrestod a try. The game continuod in Newton's 25, and Newton force i down. Time' being oalled, the game stood : Grafton, four tries (eight points) to nil.

North Shore v. Auckland.

This match was played on tha ground of the local Olub, and was an easy win for tho home team by 1J points (a goal and thrgo tries) to lovq Ihe ground was hard A great many substitutes had to play for Auckland, many members of the team not turning up. Bailey and Wynyard secured the tries, and Swinnevton converging one into a goal.

Tennyson v. Haurakl. The Hauraki won by 14 points to nil

Plasterers v. Bricklayers.

Plasterers won by Q points to 2. Tries for tho winners wero got by T. Collins (1) and O'Hare (2).

True Blues v. Union.

Aftor a well-contested match, tho former won by 4 points to nil.

Factory Employes.

An interesting game was played on Saturday between the employes of Mr J. Trenwith and Mr P. Foster, resulting in an easy victory for the ' former, Messrs Bell (capt.), Hayles, Reod, ."mith,Sheet an, and Smith showing up most prominently for the victors, and Messrs Murphy and Taylor for the defeated. '

A match was played between Athletic and Manukau on the Newmarket ground on Saturday, and ended in a victory for Athletic by a try to nil.

Albany were defeated on the Domain by Parnell Grammar School by a try to nil. It seems that the winners played several outsiders in their team.

The return football match between Upper Waipa and Hamilton was played on Saturday, and, after a good game, resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. Mr Beale acted as rsferpp,

A football match was played at the Thames on Saturday between tho Native Rose (Auckland), and the Britannia (Thames), and resulted in a win for the former by four points to nil, tries being gecured |jy W. Cullgn and A. Wilson. Jn the evening the yieitora were entertained at a banquet in the Temperance Hall.
